Free Summer Meals for Kids at Phoenix!

Phoenix is happy to announce our free summer meals program for all kids ages 1-18 in Douglas County! Meal service, which includes a hot dish and vegetables fresh from our garden, runs June 26 to August 3, Monday through Thursday. Breakfast is served from 8:30-9:00am and lunch from 11:30am-12:15pm (Note: No meal service on July 3 & 4, 2017).

Explore the Trades Summer Camp at Phoenix School shows young girls there is a place for them in the trades

Thanks to Sponsorships from Oregon Department of Transportation and The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry, Phoenix Charter School coordinated and hosted a free week-long camp for 11-14 year old girls this June to learn about opportunities for women in the building trades. 20+ young women attended the day camp which was staffed by Phoenix students from the Women In Trades (WIT) club serving a

Journalism class releases first Phoenix Newsletter of the year

This year’s Journalism class is off with a start! The journalism class is a hands-on class that teaches students real-life skills and helps them to create a portfolio. Students learn a variety of skills in the course including writing, interviewing, advertising and page design. The class is responsible for the creating the monthly newsletter and the annual yearbook.

Phoenix Agriculture Science Class Hatches Chickens

The Ag Science class is doing something new this year – hatching chickens. Science teacher Lindley Hession said the class has been learning about “phylogeny” this year. According to the dictionary, phylogeny is the “evolutionary history of a kind of organism or genetically related group of organisms.”

Territorial Seed Company Visits Phoenix School Garden

Students enrolled in the Phoenix School Learning Garden class had the opportunity to learn about seeds and how to preserve them from local seed and garden gurus from the Territorial Seed Company just up the road in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Territorial Seed staff traveled to our learning garden to teach students both dry and wet methods for seed saving. Now Hiring for Summer 2016 Tech Crew Positions

Our Summer Conservation Corps Program provides an opportunity for youth from any school and with any skill level to enjoy the summer working outdoors. This year we are proud to announce we have 18 positions available with our technical monitoring teams. All Douglas County residents, ages 17-24 are eligible for these positions. Volunteer Mentor Opportunity with the ASPIRE Program

Phoenix School is currently seeking ASPIRE mentors for our students. ASPIRE is a college and career mentoring program that pairs adults in the community with high school students to help them plan for their future beyond high school. Thank you to the greater Douglas County Community for supporting a great cause at our annual Spring Dinner and Silent Auction Fundraiser!  This year’s evening was nothing short of amazing and was filled with good food, good drink, and good people.

Free Summer Meals for Kids ages 1-18 at Phoenix

As summer approaches we are gearing up to launch our free summer meals for kids program!  Open to all kids 1-18, our program makes sure kids have the fuel they need to learn and play all summer long. Our summer food program will run from June 20 to July 28, Monday through Thursday.  Breakfast will be served from 8:30-9:00am and lunch from 11:30am-12:30pm. BBQ & Open House for Prospective Freshman Students

Fall Open House!  Wednesday, 10/12/16 from 5-8pm

Join us for a fun fall open house full of student activities, school tours, a chance to meet the teachers, and learn more about Phoenix.  Students who complete activities in each classroom will earn a ticket for a drawing full of fabulous prizes!  Parents who complete a short survey will be entered in to a drawing for dinner and bowling for four at Ten Down Bowling!  Last, but not least, a free soup and salad bar for students and their families. Dietetic Intern in the House!

Phoenix Charter School is happy to welcome our first Dietetic Intern, Jennifer Wood, for a seven week rotation fall term. While here she’ll be focusing on nutrition education & learning about Phoenix’s food program. The Dietician Program is offered by Utah State University. Jennifer received her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics at San Francisco State University in 2014.  Shortly after graduation she moved to Roseburg for a job as a WIC Nutrition Counselor. More…

Blood Drive Success!

Students in our Health Technology program held a blood donation drive with Lane Blood Center on December 2, 2016, collecting 31 life saving units of blood!  Phoenix students have been holding blood drives for some time now, but this was the first time partnering with Lane Blood Center after learning that the majority of blood donations used at our local hospital come from Lane Blood Center.

Inclement Weather

The winter weather season is upon us!  We follow the Roseburg Public Schools guidance for weather related closures, please refer to the district website for the most current information regarding school closures and bus routes. Local TV and radio are also a good source.  If our school does close we have make-up days built in to our calendar, check our calendar page for updates.

Interested in getting outside this summer and earning money?  Our Summer Youth Conservation Corps is a great opportunity for students from any school to enjoy the summer working outdoors.  Summer Tech Crew members will work with either the Umpqua National Forest or Roseburg BLM technicians completing various types of field surveys. 2015-16 Graduate Rate & Dropout Rate

Last school year 26 Phoenix students earned their high school diploma.  These youth entered Phoenix Charter High School behind in credits but persevered and were ultimately able to graduate.
